French press-style coffee is quite trendy right now (not to mention very tasty). Many coffee shops now have it on the menu if you prefer it to drip coffee or a mocha. Because of the way the coffee is brewed, it can be a super strong “cup of joe.”
The best part about having and using a french press to brew your morning cuppa is that it only takes 5 minutes!

You will need the following:
French Press (This is my favorite and it’s stainless steel!)
Coffee bean grinder (I’ve had this one for 7 years and had no problems!)
Measuring cup (These are collapsible and have a 3/4 C size!)
Whole coffee beans (This coffee is super tasty!)
Stove-top or electric kettle (These are both great options, but I’m pro-electric kettle.)
Now it is time to brew your first pot of French press coffee!
First, fill up your kettle with water and get it boiling.
While your water is boiling, you can grind your favorite coffee beans. The kind of beans you use is completely up to what your preference is. Some people prefer dark roast and others light roast. And a lot of other people prefer flavored coffee beans such as hazelnut.
I usually use ¾ of a cup of whole beans for my French press brew. Measure the beans out and pour them into your grinder.
The grinding part is really important. If you grind your beans too fine, it will be very difficult to “press” your coffee. The screen in the French press filters the water and cannot do this very well if the coffee grounds completely block the holes in it. It may take some experimenting to get your grounds “just right.”
Hold the grinder down for a few seconds, shake it, then hold the grinder down for a few seconds more. The “just right” grounds should be quite course, and you may even see halves or quarters of some beans. And that is OK! Your course grounds will be broken up enough for the water and oil from the beans to do their magic. This part is what makes French press coffee so tasty.
Pour your grounds into the bottom of the French press, smacking the grinder so you get most of the grounds out.
By now, your water should be close to boiling. Note: you do not want to pour completely boiled water onto your grounds as it can burn them. If the water does come to a boil, remove it from the heat and count to five before pouring it in the French press.
All that is left is waiting for your brew!
Let the grounds steep for 5 minutes and before you use the press, stir the grounds with a wooden spoon or chopstick (a little trick from my barista sister-in-law). If you don’t have something wooden, I am sure a normal spoon will do the trick.
After you have stirred, place the press on top of the carafe and push down slowly until you get to the bottom. Make sure to not press too hard at the bottom because you may get coffee grounds and more bitterness than is tasteful in your brew.
I know everyone likes their coffee a bit different. Some will drink this black, with a creamer, or with just a hint of milk or sugar. My favorite is adding a tiny bit of half & half and teaspoon of coconut syrup.
Dress your French press brew up any way you like; you will not be disappointed!
This seems like a lot of work. However, this whole process takes about 5-6 minutes. Brew your coffee this way often enough, you can French press in your sleep.
