I stumbled across an ad for the 12 Day Smoothie Slim Detox on Instagram of all places. What first intrigued me was the sale price: $8.99! The second is the detox is only 12 days long. Baby steps right? 30 days can be hard, but less than half of that is totally doable!
The walk through of this detox is very simple. It includes shopping lists, smoothie recipes, activities, possible side effects and other great suggestions to help with your detox. Each smoothie recipe make a day’s worth of meals, and the page lists the benefits each smoothie entails.
My experience was very difficult for the first 4 or 5 days. The cravings I was having were insane! Every hour of day 1 I kept saying to myself “This isn’t going to work, I will just eat unhealthy forever.” My brain was trying so hard to convince me that I needed pizza, soda, chips, ice cream and all my favorite “not so good-for-me” foods. These cravings were still pretty intense for days 2, 3, and 4 but day 5 is when I started to see a change in me.
I still thought about all the food I was going to stuff my face with when the detox was over. But then I thought, “then what is the point of doing a detox in the first place?” By the end of day 5 and the beginning of day 6, I knew I could finish out this detox. I KNEW this would jump start healthy eating habits.
This detox did just that! It was fun getting to try each new smoothie recipe, and find which ones I would make again…and which ones I didn’t like so much. 😉 By the last few days of the detox, I was SOOO excited to plan my healthy meals for the following week (and to eat whole food AGAIN). This program not only jump starts eating healthy, it also builds a healthy eating momentum. At the end of the detox, I thought about what I had been eating, but the desire/craving was no longer at the forefront of my mind.
The first few days of this plan left me exhausted because of the changes. But the rest of the week, I had so much more energy! I no longer felt groggy, bloated, and sick after eating (due to the crap I was eating). My desire was to keep that energy up after the detox was over. Who wants to feel gross day in and day out because of the food they are putting in their body? NOT ME! NOT anymore!
I lost 11 pounds during this detox which is a huge deal in only 12 days! However losing the weight became less important to me as the days went on. I realized my desire was to have the healthiest life I could have by what I put in my body. That is what my focus is on now, and I think that is why “healthy” people are able to stay this way. They focus on living healthy, wholesome lives (by what they eat and put on their bodies).
It was a rough 12 days but I made it through. And I will definitely do it again in the future to clean out my body and “restart”. Today, I have one smoothie that replaces a meal because they are refreshing and easy. If anything, this detox will make for way less of a kitchen mess (I LOVED THAT).
